I am a professor of history at the University of San Diego and co-editor of The Journal of San Diego History. My academic honors include USD’s distinguished University Professorship and the Davies Award for Faculty Achievement. The descendant of a Californio family, I am the author of a number of works on San Diego history including the forthcoming biography, Ellen Browning Scripps: New Money and American Philanthropy, 1836- 1932 (University of Nebraska Press, 2017).
